Weekly Home Treatments for Dry Hair

Dry hair can be bothersome, as many store-bought products can be ineffective or may even further
perpetuate the problem. This is why natural home remedies can be more effective, as they do not contain harsh chemicals but just natural properties, which can do wonders for your hair. Using ingredients readily found in the kitchen or the grocery store, you can have well-conditioned, healthy hair by doing easy, weekly treatments.
Egg Treatment

The protein in eggs helps to keep hair strong, healthy and conditioned. To harness these properties, using an egg conditioning mask weekly will make your hair smooth and shiny. Whisk one egg with 1 tbsp. of water and then work it through your hair. After about 15 minutes, wash it out with shampoo, and you can condition your hair as well. An alternate treatment also using an egg incorporates olive oil. Mix together 2 tbsp. of olive oil with one egg. Blend the ingredients well before applying it throughout your hair. Leave this in for approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse it out with warm water, and then shampoo and condition your hair.

Mayonnaise Treatment

Mayonnaise is made of egg yolks, which also contain large amounts of protein to benefit your hair. Apply approximately 1/2 cup of mayonnaise into your hair, making sure to target your hair evenly (you may need a little bit less or more, depending on how short or long your hair is). Allow this mixture to sit for approximately 15 minutes (you may want to wear a shower cap or a plastic bag to prevent dripping). Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner.

Banana Mask

Bananas contain potassium, natural oils and vitamins, all of which can make your hair healthy again. To take advantage of these benefits, mash a ripe banana in a bowl with a fork. Mix in a few drops of almond oil. Blend it to form a paste. Massage the mixture into your hair. After approximately 15 to 30 minutes, rinse it out with a gentle shampoo.

Avocado Treatment

Combine one avocado, 1 tbsp. of honey and 2 tbsp. of olive oil in a bowl. Crush the avocado with the back of a fork and then blend the ingredients to form a paste. Apply to your hair evenly, and leave it in for 20 minutes before rinsing it out. Shampoo and condition your hair as usual.

Hot Oil Treatment

Hot oil treatments help to repair damaged hair, which is usually the cause of dry hair, by restoring moisture and strength. Warm either olive oil or coconut oil. Apply first to the scalp and then spread it throughout your hair. Put a warm, damp towel over your hair. Let the oil sit for 20 minutes before washing it out with shampoo.
